April’s athlete of the month, Dalton Bancroft, signed an entry level contract with the Boston Bruins and closed out his college career as an ECAC Champion. From day one, Banger brought it being relentless, consistent, and mentally tough day in and day out.

As a true leader and heartbeat of the room, he set the tone with his hard-nosed mentality, competitive edge, and the kind of energy that elevates everyone around him. He’s helped shape the culture here, and it’s been a privilege to be a small part of his journey.

Meet Jeremy Bell — the newest addition to the Momentous team.

With over 12,000 hours of coaching and 12+ years of experience, Jeremy brings elite-level knowledge in strength & conditioning, personal training , and athlete development. From CFL and NCAA athletes to first-time lifters, his attention to detail and passion for learning set the tone in and out of the gym.

Jeremy is currently the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for @skyhawksfootball . We’re pumped to have him on the team and a part of the Quinte community and so are our athletes.

We’re switching it up this month and recognizing not just one athlete, but an entire team.

The Lancers Women’s Basketball team has shown up all year with consistency, drive, and an attitude that makes everyone around them better. Through real tough lifts, adversity, and a long season, they’ve stuck together, pushed each other, and found moments to laugh (very loudly) along the way.

They know when to challenge, when to lead, and when to show up with full energy. It’s been a privilege working with this group…true athletes in every sense.

The Momentous team had the incredible opportunity to support the OHL Combine this past weekend. An incredible experience for all the young athletes that was made possible by some of the best coaches in the province doing what they do best.

I get asked a lot about when is the right time to start training youth athletes.

The short answer? It depends.

The long answer. Every young athlete is different, but the key is building a foundation early - focusing on movement quality, coordination, and strength in a way that matches their development. Strength training isn’t just about lifting weights; it’s about learning how to control the body, develop athletic skills, and preventing injuries.

The earlier they start learning good habits, movement mechanics, and body awareness, the better they set themselves up for long-term success. Now this doesn’t mean throwing a 10-year-old under a barbell, but it does mean teaching them how to move well, build strength safely and enjoy the process of getting better even when it is hard at times.

Your shoulders need strength AND mobility to move freely, stay pain-free, and handle the demands of sport & every day life. There are so many drills and exercises out there which typically leads to confusion. These 7 drills are used regularly in our gym to help build stability, control, and resilience while improving movement efficiency.

🔹 90/90 Rows w/ Long Reach - Build scapular control & thoracic expansion for better overhead range.
🔹 Foam Roller Serratus Roll - Engage the serratus anterior to improve scapular mechanics & mobility.
🔹 Bottoms-Up KB 1/2 Kneeling Press - Shoulder stability & grip strength - forces control through the entire range.
🔹 Cable Face Pulls - Strengthens postural & rotator cuff muscles to reinforce healthy movement patterns.
🔹 Single Arm Overhead Farmer’s Carry - A great way to create distance from one shoulder to the other - start light and build up accordingly.
🔹 Long Arm Alternating Side Planks - A core and shoulder stability challenge - control the transition.
🔹 Plank Saws - A simple anti-extension test - keep your shoulders stacked while driving tension forward & back.

HIP MOBILITY - Focus on the frontal plane exploring length with tension in the adductors. Simple low loading strategies that although simple can lead to less “aches and tight areas”

Frog Rock Backs - An easy one to play with. Find range and different widths.

Dynamic Adductor Rockbacks - Explore the tension by findin a balance of challenging a good firm foot placement on the extended leg while rocking for depth both forwards and backwards.

Adductor Focus BL Glute Bridge - A classic for a reason, keep hips high while maintaining good pressure on the foam roller or other object (soccer ball works well)
.
Copenhagen Holds - This can be progressed/regressed accordingly but this allows you to play with length under time.
.
Side Lying Adductor Lift Offs - Keep hips stacked and try to find as much height with foot while keeping parallel on the ground.
.
Slider Side Lunge - Find depth and length equally. When returning leg back, press into the floor to create tension.
